Research

University of Toronto students have translated from Ukrainian the annotations of
articles concerning the Holodomor for the Holodomor Research and Education Consortium
(HREC). HREC is a research institution at the University of Alberta whose purpose is to conduct
research on the Holodomor, which is the genocide of the Ukrainian people by the Soviet
government in 1933 and 1934. At the center, people conduct research using documents,
discuss a variety of topics concerning the Holodomor, and host and attend many conferences
regarding this tragedy of the Ukrainian people. They also publish, distribute, and translate many
books.

Academic
conferences, 
seminars and language competitions

University of Toronto Ukrainian language professor Mariana Burak regularly
participates in diverse international academic conferences and seminars, prepares reports and
presentations, and writes academic articles. University students, under her supervision, take
part in the annual International Spelling Olympiad in the Ukrainian language, hosted in
Wrocław, Poland.
